APPLICATIONS - BATH FLOORS

Size does make a difference! For many years the general advice from designers was that small bathrooms required the use of small tile! Actually that advice has been made obsolete in the last ten years with the availability of large body tiles. As the tiles increase in size, the amount of grout lines is reduced and the floors are not only then easier to take care of but make the room look bigger as they are less busy (See Design Services – Bath Example on the site map page).

We have been quite successful in tiling over old tile floors to get the beneficial results without tear out costs and expense (See picture). In addition, If you have a narrow floor consider setting the larger tile on diagonal as the room will then look wider! Another trick is to utilize the same tile on the floor and the walls of the bathroom. If you were going to utilize marble in the bathroom the same size marble would be used everywhere. We have concluded that the same works for tile! When you use the same material on the floor and the wall you don’t define the end of the room by the wall with a different tile. Much like fashion photography where they use a white floor and wall to eliminate the horizon, the bath will go on in your perspective if the tiles are the same on the floor and the wall. (See picture)
