As with floors, countertops are work surfaces more than they are decorative areas. It makes sense to have areas that get dirty due to constant use to not be the focal point of the room! That focal point is the backsplash, the area of the kitchen that doesn’t get walked upon or worked upon. (See “Backsplashes- The Earrings of the House” in the Articles section)
